How to Talk to the Doctor as a Caregiver
Three habits that make short doctor visits work in your favor.
4 min readReviewed 9/4/2026
You get 12 minutes with the doctor. Make them count.
Bring one page: the current medication list, top three questions, and any new symptoms with when they started. Sit next to your loved one, not between them and the doctor. Ask 'What is the plan if this does not work?' before you leave.
Checklist
- One-page prep sheet before every visit
- Top three questions ranked
- Ask about the backup plan
- Get changes to medications in writing
